  • Condition: Good-Very Good overall vint cond: Offered is this very nice & completely intact (w/no fractures or loss) early-mid 20th c Anglo-Indian hand carved & hand painted, highly dec sq format, stout wooden foot stool or ottoman. It has its orig painted surfaces which are dry & matte finished. There's some surface wear from previous use but by & lg, the footstool has survived its 80-100 yr lifespan in fairly well-preserved overall antique cond. The hand painting is quite exuberant & extraordinary, w/gestural, kinetic mark-making, using a central floral medallion painted on the int basin & a meandering vine & repeating blooming flower motif along the outside perimeter of the footstool on its narrow sidewalls. The surface of the table, since it's slightly recessed & surrounded by a raised, elevated edge, could accommodate a panel of sq cut glass to protect the painted surfaces below. This is what makes early 20th c vint Indian hand painted wood furniture so alluring. Absolutely gorgeous.
