his magnificent antique French sterling silver vermeil ewer is entirely gold washed, inside and out. It is crafted in the Empire style with a full relief swan forming the handle. It is further embellished with alternating borders of stylized lotus leaves or “
Feuilles
d’eau
”, stylized shells, rows of beading and a large stylized flower at the base of the body.
It bears in two places the French “
Minerve
Premier
Titre
” hallmark, indicating the highest quality of French sterling silver (950/1000), used in Paris since 1838. The
Minerve
Premier
Titre
is the guarantee that the sterling is at least 95% silver. It also bears the maker’s mark consisting of the letters “
TFres
” below the image of a “
Huguenote
” (a terra cotta casserole dish), the mark of
Tétard
Frères
, famous master silversmiths located in the
rue
Béranger
in Paris beginning in 1901.
This piece is in very good condition with the exception of faint scratches, two small areas with scratches (see detailed photos) and a very tiny, barely visible, dent on the lower part which is possibly a hallmark, along with signs of normal use and great age.
